What is a Reason for Being?

Your Reason for Being, in the context of business, is essentially your Purpose.

We all start our business for different reasons, but the intention behind your business is actually the most powerful foundation -

it sets the tone for everything that happens inside your company and also outwardly.

So it’s important to have a very meaningful Reason for Being - one that is connected to community, connected to your heart and is bringing you closer to the life you want to live.

WHO

WHAT‍ ‍

WHY (this is your Reason for Being)

Knowing, believing in, and living WHY you are doing WHAT you are doing and for WHO, is wildly important.

Connect to your inner knowing and listen.

In this work, the first step is to revisit your reason(s) for starting your business.

  • Are you still working from that same reason?

  • Have you strayed?

  • Do you need to recreate and reorient to a NEW reason - one that is rooted from your heart and serving community?

Business with a singular goal to make a lot of money does not work for all body types and souls, much less society as a whole. Especially when the creation of the business comes from the old engrained idea that, you have to find the problem then create a solution for it. This is a scarcity mindset, that creates a negative energy of the world being full of problems that need to be fixed. Yuck! This world is abundant, and instead of being hole-fillers, as creators we can offer what is flowing from our fullness in an already abundant world.

We need to be connected to the greater good for all beings, everywhere, always.

We’ve been taught that “business is business”. And to not allow business to mingle with your personal life. I will argue that this very idea is so descructive and wildly unhealthy to a whole person. In fact, I believe this very idea of seperatedness, has created the kind of money hungry system we have right now, which ends up leaving a society frantic, seeking and mindlessly consuming, instead of building and maintaining a real and connected community. It can leave people feeling disconnected from their body, disconnected from their purpose, and running on auto-pilot.

For example - for a mother of a young child to become a completely different person at her job, because society has engrained in us that this is the only acceptable way to be, leaves this mother with the impossible task of building walls to deal with work, then dismantling them upon arriving home. What happens is that these walls begin to become permanent fixtures of the personality. And without realizing it, this mother has lost the intuitive softness and nurturing body that this whole entire world needs her to have. Her softness has turned less flexible, and suddenly she feels less creative, more reactive, foggy, and separate from her body. This, is not okay. For anyone - we need our mothers and creatives to stay soft, nurturing, creative and spontaneous.
